Our Polish keeper: Should Artur Krysiak stay Yeovil’s number one?

cropped krysiak“He’s our keeper, our Polish keeper” according to the song, but many Yeovil Town fans have turned on first choice goalie Artur Krysiak.

The 28-year-old’s form has been patchy, and he was blamed for Town’s recent 4 – 3 loss to Forest Green Rovers in which he made two poor mistakes.

Signed in 2014 from Exeter City, Artur was brought in as a replacement for the departing Marek Stech, and has since made over 100 appearances for the Glovers.

However, the Pole didn’t fare well in our recent poll, which revealed that just 16% of supporters want him to stay between the sticks.

From 140 votes, 32% of you would prefer to see Jonny Maddison in goal, while a whopping 52% think a new signing is necessary.

2016/17 Awards: BEST Player of the Season

best playerTo begin our look back at the 2016/17 campaign, we’re choosing our player of the season.

Such is the sour mood around Huish Park at the moment, there are some fans that claim nobody deserves a ‘Best Player’ award. That simply isn’t true, as there are many members of the team this season who deserve recognition. Here, we’ve given our top three.

Make sure to let us know whether you think we made the right choice on Twitter. Who would you have picked?

Third place: Otis Khan

Having been released by Barnsley, Otis Khan signed for Yeovil in the summer and made an immediate impression, scoring on his debut against Notts County in the opening game of the season. Continue reading “2016/17 Awards: BEST Player of the Season”

For Fog’s Sake!

Yeovil Town ended 2016 with a 0 – 0 draw at home against promotion-chasing Portsmouth.

Despite there being little action on the pitch, the conditions the game was played in will be remembered for a long time.

A thick fog descended on Huish Park, meaning that fans were unable to see much of the match. Continue reading “For Fog’s Sake!”

Yeovil Town 0 – 1 Morecambe: Player Ratings

Yeovil Town fell to their first home defeat of the 2016/17 season against Morecambe. A second half Kevin Ellison goal was enough to send the Shrimpers home happy, although goalkeeper Barry Roche was forced into numerous fine saves to protect the away side’s clean sheet.

Huish Park pre-Morecambe

While there was an obvious sense of disappointment and frustration around Huish Park from the home faithful, I didn’t think the Glovers’ performance was too bad; they simply had a bad day at the office against a well-set up and organised team who knew how to thwart Yeovil’s attacks. Yeovil Town 2 – 0 Notts County: Player Ratings

Yeovil Town made a strong start to the 2016/17 season with a 2 – 0 win over Notts County. Kevin Dawson and Otis Khan got the goals in a dominant first half, while Matty Dolan struck the post with a free kick in the second.

Huish Park pre-match against Notts County

There were some minor grumbles from Magpies fans for the first goal after Dawson’s aerial challenge with goalkeeper Adam Collin, but in truth County have no-one to blame but themselves for the loss. Despite Jonathan Forte looking a handful at times, the visitors were mostly impotent. Continue reading “Yeovil Town 2 – 0 Notts County: Player Ratings”

Analysing Yeovil Town’s Released and Retained Lists

Who cares about the England squad? Yeovil Town have finally announced their released and retained lists! While there are some obvious judgements, there are a couple of surprises as well. Here’s what we made of Darren Way’s decisions.

Out of contract but given new offers:

Artur Krysiak (43 appearances, 0 goals)

The name Artur Krysiak would be high on a list of players that supporters would like to see playing at Huish Park next season, with the Polish ‘keeper proving to be a fan’s favourite. Unless the terms of the contract he has been offered are hugely different to what he was expecting, it would be a surprise to not see him signing on considering the fact he’s already posted some tweets alluding to his aims for the future with the Glovers.

Yeovil Town 0 – 0 Carlisle United Player Ratings

After a nail-biting affair between these two sides in the FA Cup earlier this season, it was somewhat of a surprise (and a disappointment) that this encounter ended in a drab goalless draw. However, it’s still a welcome point for the Glovers, who aren’t 100% safe from relegation yet.

Here are my player ratings from the match. You can tell me what you think of my choices by tweeting me on @bestteamwest or commenting on this article.

Artur Krysiak 7 – Our Polish ‘keeper had a fairly quiet game. The Cumbrian visitors only had four shots on target, with most of them being routine saves for Krysiak. However, he still had a decent game and made some impressive claims from crosses. Continue reading “Yeovil Town 0 – 0 Carlisle United Player Ratings”
