Saturday 30th January 2016 – Viva Jack Compton!
With former Yeovil winger Jack Compton being linked with a return to the club, we thought we’d look back at one of his shining moments during his first spell.
Midway through the 2015/16 season, the 28-year-old scored three goals and was the Glovers’ star man in a 3 – 2 win over AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow.
After the away side fell behind early on, the former Newport man made the score 1 – 1 with a cool finish from Liam Walsh’s through ball.
Yeovil conceded again but Compton conjured up another equaliser with a sweetly-struck free kick. However, whether or not he meant it is up for debate!
The Welshman completed his hat-trick – the first from a Yeovil player since Shaun MacDonald’s against Leyton Orient in 2011 – with a second-half penalty, and he ran over to manager Darren Way to celebrate.
The spot-kick secured three points for Yeovil, and the win came during the revitalised team’s up-turn in form under Way – in the same month, the Glovers lost just once in six games.
Compton may well be back at Huish Park after a one-year absence if his latest tweets are anything to go by. If he does return, we’ll certainly hope for more performances like this one!
